Rocky Mountain BBQ Association & Franktown Firewood & Patio 

are proud to offer a competition BBQ training class. Whether you want to improve your calls, improve your standing or become the envy of the neighborhood, our Grand Champion pitmaster Bob Oldfield's class will give you the tips, tricks and techniques to help you achieve your goals. He will take you through a competition cook step by step stressing techniques that will help improve your skills. 
 Starting with meat selection and preparation through all phases of smoking, timing and the tasting and presentation to the judges. He will demonstrate the best method to utilize spices and rubs to your best advantage. Each stage is carefully thought out to provide you with the best chance of capturing the top awards at any competition.
This is a one-day class to learn the techniques of authentic wood-smoked barbecue and some (but not all) of Bob’s secrets to Grand Champion BBQ!

 BBQ Pitmaster Competition Training Class

Bob’s accomplishments include winning the RMBBQA Colorado Cup for 2009, which is first place overall Championship for all RMBBQA contests combined for the year.  Lamar, CO - Grand Champion, Durango, CO -Reserve Grand Champion, Laramie, Wy.- Grand Champion,  Florence, CO - Grand Champion. One 3rd place in the Jack Daniels World Invitational.  The Royal and Jack Daniels are all teams that have won previous Grand Champions thru the year. 

Bob just got back from the Lamar competition and won Grand Champion and 1st in ribs and 1st in brisket.  Congrats Bob!

Date: Saturday, November 12th

Time: 8:00am to 3:00 pm

BBQ lunch served

Location: 1953 Hwy 83  (Next to Conoco) S.E. corner of Hwy 86 and 83. 

Cost:  $300 - Includes lunch (Spouse - free) or $250 -  Includes 1 year membership to Rocky Mtn. BBQ Assn.*  (Regular price $30 per year).                                                                                                      

Class Will Include:

  • Meat selection (Chicken, Rib, Pork, Beef Brisket). 
  • Meat preparation (Trim, prep. and seasoning). 
  • Cooking temps, times and procedures. 
  • Preparing competition turn in boxes & timing
  • Grille and smoker types and uses. 
  • Wood and pellet selections for all meats. 
  • Equipment and tools needed. 
  • Time for any questions. 
  • Includes Lunch
